Video of the day: Nas - "The Don"

The Video of the day today is Nas "The Don"!

Nas has to be one of the illest if not the illest rapper alive, in my opinion!

This record is off of his new album "Life is Good" that is being released in July.

Check out the video...the link is below

When Hip Hop Was Positive: Slick Rick "Hey Young World"

Slick Rick "Hey Young World"

Listening to the radio today it's not hard for one to believe that the newer generation is in disbelief that is was ever "cool" and "mainstream" for rappers to speak about positive values, uplift their communities, and be good role-models.

When I speak to kids younger then myself I often hear that its "corny" and "played out" to be respectful of others in ones lyrics and portray a message that isn't about sex, guns, violence, or money. I just want to remind those who are too young to remember that there was once a time when doing the right thing wasn't only the right things to do but was popular and even played on mainstream radio.

This first example I am going to give is one of my all time favorite songs! Slick Rick "Hey Young World" from 1988! If you are unfamiliar with who Slick Rick is then don't say you know one thing about hip hop.

I will continue to give examples of "When Hip Hop Was Positive"!

SeeS Speaks: "Dreamer" Produced By Platinum Producer Hugo Diaz

SeeS (S Double E S)

Without question to make it in this industry you need to be a "Dreamer"!!

I wanted to write a track to inspire others who are chasing their dreams to never give up, but also wanted to write a song that I could look to for inspiration myself. I chose to write the lyrics in a manner in which they reflected the struggles I have faced being a "dreamer" and chasing those dreams.
I feel some people think of "dreamers" as people who only imagine what they want but are never committed to following through or unrealistic in their view of what's obtainable. I wanted this song to define a "dreamer" to mean someone who fights for what they truly love in the face of what others view as unbeatable odds. In my case being an artist, but what it takes to defend and justify to people the blood, sweat, and tears you put into something simply because it makes you happy. The sacrifices you are willing to make when the odds are stacked against you, cause in your mind you cant lose doing what you love.

This track was recorded for my EP "SeeS Control" and was produced by Platinum Producers Hugo Diaz and Hulyonthebeat at Huge Music Studios in Miami Florida. The hook was sung by Music Luvas and was written as a collaboration between them and myself.

-SeeS (S Double E S)

The Diaz Brothers’ work with Pitbull immediately rocketed  the
production crew to worldwide fame. They've also produced tracks for Daddy Yankee, Lil
Jon & the East Side Boyz, Lloyd Banks, DJ Khaled, Trick Daddy, Trina, Brisco and the film 2 Fast 2 Furious
I hope you enjoy, feel free to leave a comment if your feeling it!

Amber Rose Takes The High Road

It's nice to see some celebrities still have their head on straight and are clearly not battling with insecurities. I say this referring to the two cents given by Amber Rose, Kayne's X-girlfriend, when asked about the rumors between Kayne West and Kim Kardashian. In 2011 Rose had accused Kim of ruining her relationship with West but when asked about it in a recent interview took the high road when offering her perspective on their relationship.

"Love is love, man" she responded in the interview and then later elaborated on twitter "Love is Love no matter how you find it. You never know how two hearts feel when they're with each other. Judge not lest you be judged #LoveisPeace," she tweeted.

Smart words, I respect her for saying this and wish her the best!

Jay-Z's Net's End 35-Year Run In Jersey, Moving to Brooklyn

The NBA team the New Jersey Net's has played it's last home game in New Jersey, and lost to the 76ers 105-87. The Net's will begin next season as the Brooklyn Nets, playing in the brand-new Barclays Center in the New York borough.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie attended the last home game in New Jersey but was bitter about the team leaving and was not in attendance to give the team a nice sendoff.

“You don’t want to stay, we don’t want you,” he said at press conference earlier Monday.  “I’m not going to be in the business of begging people to stay here.

"Good riddance! See you later," Christie wished the Nets.

One can only expect that co-owner Jay-Z's "Brooklyn (Go Hard)" will become the song of choice as they start their next season in NYC. I have posted a live performance of Jay-Z performing this track below!!

Role Model Behavior: Lil Wayne Coaches Charitable Middle School Basketball Game

Lil Wayne, superstar rapper with YMCMB, pitched in to coach a middle school charity basketball game in Miami. Lil Wayne deserves praise for his many charitable efforts and I glad to highlight this one because I am a major supporter of anytime a rapper does anything positive within the community. The organization Celebrity Court of Dreams was hosted by the American Airlines Arena.

Lil Wayne's gave the kids a few words of wisdom as their coach:

"Whatever dream you have, don't quit. Don't let anyone try and stop you." Lil Wayne told the kids.

Also with a positive anti-bullying theme/message I have posted below the video for Eminem feat. Lil Wayne "No Love"! Gotta respect when two artists this large come together for the kids!

Pharrell - "Places And Spaces I've Been" Book

Pharrell is planning on releasing an upcoming book called "Places and Spaces I've Been" which is expected to hit bookshelves on October 16th. The book is written by Pharrell and features words from Jay-z as well as many others.

In a recent interview with GQ Pharrell spoke about the book:

GQ: Tell me about your upcoming travel book, Places & Spaces I’ve Been.
Pharrell: It’s just things and people that have moved me and inspired me around the world and that I am also honored to know.

I have been a long time fan of Pharrell's unique style and wish him the best with this book. I have not read it but will post a review once I do.

In the meantime here is one of my favorite songs by Skateboard P and N.E.R.D "Sooner or Later"!

Note to Florida Police: Leave Rick Ross Alone, Its Only Weed!

Last week Rick Ross yacht was searched for WEED when Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Officers flagged down the rappers boat claiming they smelled weed smoke. Authorities searched the boat and found nothing and no arrests were made. No further investigation is expected, Good!

Rick Ross is smart and knows how to handle the cops...like a boss!

In my opinion celebrities who are constantly in the media spotlight and surrounded by police and security need to be given more flexibility when it comes to misdemeanor charges surrounding disturbing the peace or drug paraphernalia. Everyone with an entourage is going to be slightly disruptive and loud and chances are people will be doing drugs, it's just the way the industry is and although it should be regulated needs to be done so with common sense and without the artist assuming all responsibility for everyone traveling with them. Let me hear your opinion in the comment section!

I'm glad this didn't become a bigger problem for Rick Ross as I am a huge supporter of his movement and appreciate the way he looks out for the artists he is working with. He has had an amazing successful last two years and I applaud him for that!

Here is one of my favorite new Rick Ross songs featuring Nas! Triple Beam Dreams - Check it out!

I have also had the privilege to hang out and do some work with one of Rick Ross artists GunPlay who had nothing but good things to say about the "Boss"! GunPlay is another solid artist who you should look out for....ROLLIN!

Bassnectar Feat. Lupe Fiasco...FIRE

I saw Bassnectar last night at the House of Blues in Boston and HE KILLED IT! It was the first time I heard the collaboration he did with rapper Lupe Fiasco and my first impression was INSTANT HIT!! I think Bassnectar is extremely talented and think VAVA VOOM is one of the best original Rap/Electronic/Dubstep songs I have heard yet! Below is the video, check it out, let me know what you think in the comment section.

IN HONOR OF 4/20: Luda "Blueberry Yum Yum"

Today is 4/20/12 and for those who know what that means: GET HIGH!

One of my favorite WEED SONGS is Ludacris "Blueberry Yum Yum"! Ludacris is among my favorite rappers and I would say top 5 for southern rappers due to his animated but precise delivery, witty and comical lyrics, and ability to stay relevant in the game. I'm glad I got the chance to meet him backstage and will say he is a humble and outgoing guy who is as fun as his "stage" persona.

Nas and Jay-Z on Squashing Their Beef

What makes Nas and Jay-Z so respectable? One reason is they are both mature and know where and when to draw the line.

I have been longtime fans of both Nas and Jay-Z, but for some reason there hip-hop feud never bothered me, I was able to enjoy the battle because they were doing it for the love of the art and although it became personal, it never spiraled out of control and they kept it on wax.

Their "beef" is old history, but was brought back to the spotlight due to a new upcoming Nas "Behind the Music" episode in which he recalls the beef with Jay-Z, how they patched things up and became friends, and how Jay-Z was the first to extend the olive branch.

It's great to see two artists have the ability to remain friends and respect each other enough to battle each other with mutual respect and love for the art of hip hop.

Nas and Jay-Z still remain friends today. Check out this quote from Nas talking about their feud.

"We went down to the studio, man, dapped each other up and started laughing," Nas said. "Then the first thing Jay said to me, man, was 'You a'ight?' And I guess he heard about my mom passing, beyond everything else, he looked at me and said, 'Yo man, you aight?' I said, 'Yo, this is a beautiful start right here.'"

2-Pac Hologram Creater: "It was Dre's Vision to Bring this Back to Life"

There is no question that Dr. Dre is one of the most accomplished producers/rappers in the game and this goes to prove that once again he is on top of his game. Dr. Dre had the vision to create the hologram for 2-Pac and I think it was ingenious and refuse to listen to anyone who thinks it was done in bad taste. Everyone who performed that night was friends with Pac and my opinion is they just wanted to rock the stage with him again. I for one am glad this technology was first used (by my knowledge) for Pac and think that says a lot about his impact as an artist.

Here is the quote by the guy responsible for creating the illusion at Coachella

"We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre's vision to bring this back to life," said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, a company based in San Diego that projected and staged the hologram. "It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life." Smith said he wasn't allowed to talk about the creative aspects of the production -- including how the hologram was able to seemingly perform the set in synch with Snoop and whether all the vocals were 'Pac's -- but he did say that his company has the ability to recreate long-dead figures and visually recreate them in the studio. "You can take their likenesses and voice and ... take people that haven't done concerts before or perform music they haven't sung and digitally recreate it," he said.

2-Pac Returns To The Stage At Coachella

I happen to be one of the biggest 2-Pac fans, In my mind he is top 3 dead or alive on any day!!! This gave me the chills, and I cant stop watching it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Music lives forever!!

50 Cent Quote On Mixing Friends With Music

In a recent interview 50 Cent mentioned how he could have been more successful if he was better able to set boundaries between friends and business. I think he hit the nail right on the head and is dropping knowledge to anyone trying to get into any industry, especially the music industry. 50 Cent has been very successful as a business man in the music industry, and illustrates the importance of not allowing yourself to get comfortable just because you are successful.

On a side note, Fantom of the Beat, produced the beat for 50 Cent and Lil Kim's "Magic Stick" and I am fortunate to currently be working with him on our new FantoMusic/ CT Corporate Takeover project. It's all about who you know in this business, who they know, and establishing mutually beneficial relationships with key players in the industry, while maintaining a balance in those relationships to allow for a working business relationship.

50 Cent Quote on relationships in the industry:

"Personally, I have to be conscious not to overly invest myself in people because I'm personable and I start to develop relationships," 50 said. "Let's just say an easy job, a hard job to do, you forget you're working and when people have a comfortable work environment, they do things and you kind of let them go for a while and it kind of becomes uncomfortable and you have to get rid of them. ... [You have] to keep those boundaries. When you're exercising that whistle-while-you-work concept 'cause you're enjoying yourself and you're doing what you're passionate about, it's tough for you to look at each individual's performance and actual space -- there's been a lot of mistakes made in my career that have gone unseen because the projects were successful projects. But people made a lot of mistakes behind the scenes that could have made it a little bigger and better."
